Realme GT 7 Pro features periscope camera, ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor

Realme GT 7 Pro Camera, fingerprint sensor details

Without revealing the exact name of the model, the tipster has teased a leak of the Smart Pikachu (Via Weibo) revealed that the Realme GT 7 series phones, presumably the upcoming GT 7 Pro, will feature a periscope telephoto camera that will ensure high optical zoom for distant objects. However, the tipster did not reveal the exact sensor size.

Apart from this, the phone is also said to have an ultrasonic in-display sensor. Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors work by measuring the gap between the edges of the fingerprint rather than its edges, making it more accurate in capturing prints even when fingers are wet. We can expect to see the same reader in OnePlus 13 and Xiaomi 15 phones as well.

Here are some differences between ultrasonic and optical fingerprint sensors:

  • Ultrasonic fingerprint sensors use sound to check a person's fingerprint. They send high-frequency sound waves to the finger, which return with a detailed 3D fingerprint image. In contrast, optical scanners use light waves to create a 2D fingerprint map.
  • However, sound echoes provide a more reliable fingerprint representation than light reflections, especially if the fingers are damp or wet. This is because sound can bypass surface imperfections or interferences on the finger.
  • Additionally, ultrasonic sensors can detect heartbeats and blood flow, making them difficult to fool with an image or dummy. This also allows them to monitor heart rate, BMI, and blood sugar levels. Phone manufacturers can save on extra components if they use this feature.
