Last month, Xiaomi launched the Redmi A1 for the first time in India. It is the company’s second Android Go smartphone after the Redmi Go from 2019.

Over the past few weeks, there have been several leaks on the Plus variant of the A1. This phone called Redmi A1+ is now somewhat official in Kenya.

Xiaomi Kenya’s official social media teases the arrival of the Redmi A1 Plus in the country on October 7. However, the phone is already on sale on Jumia

Just like the suggested leaks, the Remdi A1+ is the same as the Redmi A1. The only difference is the presence of a fingerprint sensor on the back.

Display

Thus, the device has a 6.52-inch screen with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels (HD +) and a dewdrop notch. The 20:9 panel offers support for a 120Hz touch sampling rate, 400 nits peak brightness, and 70% NTSC color gamut.

Storage and Battery

The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio A22 chipset paired with LPDDR4x RAM and 5.1 eMMC storage. It runs Android 12 Go Edition and is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 10W wired charging.

Camera and connectivity

The phone has an 8-megapixel rear camera supported by a 0.3-megapixel depth sensor and a 5-megapixel front camera. Connectivity options on it include dual SIM, 4G, single-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GNSS, and a MicroUSB port. The device also offers a dedicated MicroSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In Kenya, the Redmi A1 Plus is priced at KZL 10,345 ($85) for the 3GB + 32GB single memory configuration. It’s for sale on Jumia in black and blue colors.

We expect Xiaomi to provide this affordable smartphone in more markets in the coming days.
