Google Pixel 8a inadvertently confirmed ahead of launch

Google accidentally confirmed the existence of Pixel 8a

  • A Google executive inadvertently revealed The recently removed Android feature will return to the Pixel 8a and newer devices.
  • This is the first time that the company has acknowledged the existence of the phone. Truth be told, the phone was never a big secret.
  • Going into the story, the revelation came after several users reported the battery information page disappearing within Settings > About Phone > Battery Information (via).
  • Responding to the same, a Google employee responded by saying that this page “will be enabled on Pixel 8a and above, so this is WAI (working as intended).”

The battery information page was first made available in early beta builds of Android 14 QPR1 last year, but interestingly, it was recently removed in Android 14 QPR2. It does not provide much information on the battery except the battery manufacturing date and cycle count. From Google's confirmation, it is clear that the feature was intended to be removed. But the good news is that this feature will return with Pixel 8a and newer models.
