With the announcement of the Mi10 Youth, Xiaomi has unveiled the all-new MIUI 12. The new incarnation of MIUI brings new features and improvements aimed at improving the user experience. It comes with the new Flat Look, Dark Mode 2.0 — we’ve already talked, good privacy controls, and advanced health features.
Visual enhancements include new animations, interesting live wallpapers, and an always-on display. The company claims that the animations of opening and closing the app drawer have been changed and that the new animation is more fluid.
At MIUI 12, Xiaomi focuses on privacy-related features improvements, and the company claims to be the first mobile UI to accept TÜV Rhineland’s “Android System Enhanced Privacy Protection Test.” There are three new features, including Flair, Barbed Wire, and Mask System, which provide users with greater protection against rogue applications.
At the launch event, the company revealed that MIUI has over 310 million monthly active users, highlighting the fact that Xiaomi was originally successful in selling its mid-budget devices.

MIUI 12 is still based on Android 10 and its beta program has already started in China, but the company is aiming for a global release in June.
Here are the cool MIUI 12 features
Dark Mode 2.0
As revealed earlier, Xiaomi has paid a lot of attention to improving Dark Mode on MIUI. Dark Mode 2.0 introduces features such as wallpaper dimming, which, unlike before, gradually changes the shadow of the wallpaper as the day progresses.
This improves the text reading experience by automatically adjusting the font-weight when you switch from light to dark mode, according to Xiaomi. To improve the clarity of the text, Xiaomi has also introduced a feature that automatically adjusts the font contrast based on ambient light.

Super wallpapers and visual improvements
With MIUI 12, the company has introduced new super wallpapers, a collection of high-resolution 3D wallpapers on Mars and Earth. These new live wallpapers are based on NASA’s space exploration data and can be used to lock the screen when unlocked.
Whenever the phone is unlocked, these super wallpapers zoom from space shot to aerial shot. Wallpaper automatically adjusts based on dark mode settings.
Xiaomi has made the Settings app visually appealing and it now displays system information, cache details, and other information in an easy to understand graphical format. The company calls it “Sensory Visual Design”, which makes reading the text a better experience and has a better distance between texts.
MIUI 12 introduces a number of improvements to system animation, including the new Android 10 navigation gesture, new animation for screen rotation, app launch, and close. App icons also have new animations and react differently depending on your gesture direction and speed. Simple tasks such as deleting an app now have a ripple effect that animates in close icons.

MIUI 12 Privacy Features
With MIUI 12, Xiaomi has put a great emphasis on privacy and security. It brings three new applications:
Flare: Keep track of all access permissions granted to applications. This will raise the alert as soon as the app tries to access the camera or GPS
Barbed wire: This allows the user to allow app permissions for a specific period of time that will automatically revoke all permissions. This is useful for users who want some apps to allow conditional access to more features.
Mask System: This feature prevents applications from accessing critical personal information such as IMEI, call logs, calendar, etc.
With the new UI, users will be able to know how the app behaves. It lets users know all the information it collects from phones or other apps.

Calling AI
This AI-powered feature can duplicate calls and suggest responses during the conversation to people with hearing problems. It is similar to Google’s Auto Screening feature and uses Xiaomi’s Shiao AI to answer calls for you. It is not clear whether this feature will be introduced on devices outside China.
MIUI 12 launch schedule and qualified equipment
The beta testing program for MIUI 12 has already begun. However, the stable version will be released in June 2020. Keep in mind that this timeline only applies to Chinese devices. The company has yet to announce the global MIUI 12 rollout schedule.
